While research other topics I kept running across what is called the Warrior Society and did some research. Any information on this?

I know some Nations have Societies, or have revived these. But I am not sure why these "Educational non-profits 501c3's are in need of these.  I encountered one from one of these groups and I swear that was the "craziest" person I have ever met. We always wondered why someone passing himself off as a Traditional Medicine Man would be in a Warrior Society. But different Nations do different things. frederica

Steve Russell told me that for the Cherokee one of their clans used to be their warrior society, but not for a long time. I know some vets in the CNO and the Eastern Band were planning to start up warrior societies in the past few years, but don't know how that turned out.

What's struck me though, has been how virtually every single would be Cherokee tribe is claiming to have a warrior society. Sometimes they'e vets groups, sometimes they're made up of simply all the males. I recall one where a man inducted his ten year old son.

The "Free Cherokee" are Duncan "Sings Alone"'s bunch. He's over in Europe selling ceremonies. Notice that these groups say anyone born here is a "Native" therefore they have the "right" to make up whatevertheyfeellike if it makes them feel good. Ol' Lord o' Dissin' would love these.

I am Eastern Cherokee and have never heard of a clan called Warrior clan, Nor have I heard that either the Eastern or CNO were going to start a warrior society. I read through many links and to be honest some of these societies seem exteremist and carry and are willing to use weapons if needed or anyone goes against them, this is of concern to me.

Needs More Caffeine

CNO has a Warrior Society (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherokee_Nation_Warriors_Society) but these groups that you posted about seem to have completely misunderstood.  CNO's warrior society is an honorary organization for veterans, not a militia, but I guess the new agers will take a real thing and twist it to fit their own imaginations so you can hardly recognize it.

Those first two links look like they are up in Canada , and I'm not sure if they would have anything to do with the last link , which is Cherokee or claiming to be  .

In Canada many First Nations have Warrior Societies which are active in protecting their Nations land, culture and people . There is an article about Warrior Societies in Canada here

Thanks lostcherokee,
I was not aware of the CNO"s warrior society, but I do know we call all veterans Warriors and those who are at war now ect,

My concern was as was stated those who have taken the term and mixed with new age and it is very different than one of HONOR.

Wado all for the links.
