Back in 1982, when the government of Canada was working on the Constitution, a senior non-native politician was speaking with an Aboriginal leader.

The politician said "So I guess you'd be happy if we just all went back to Europe, eh?"

The Native leader agreed with this, to which the politician said "So what do we do about the Metis?"

With a straight face and without missing a beat, the Native leader just said "Oh, they only have to go half way."
