Vance Hawkins, a longtime member here, has a yahoo group dedicated to all the misinformation out there about alleged Chickamaugas. If I recall right, they haven't found any evidence of Chickamaugas after the 1760s. That hasn't stopped loads of pretenders from coming forward and making all kinds of claims, the most famous being John Pope AKA "Rolling Thunder".

Comanchelodge used to have warnings on this "band" that you can still find cached by google.

I see a couple problems with their claims. They list the WCN as a sister tribe. Also the Amonsoquath, Wm Anderson's bunch that claims Pocahontas was Cherokee. They also do women only sweatlodges.

They claim 8000 members, but list as a goal to get 1000 members to attend tribal gatherings. And their photos show gatherings that seem to be just a dozen people at most. So is this more of a mailing list than anything else? People who think of it as signing up for a heritage group newsletter?

They list Richard Craker as an elder. From what I can tell he seems a decent sincere person, a retired art teacher.

But I don't think any actual tribe would call him an elder. None of what he knows, or claims to know, seem passed down by oral tradition. The writing he has posted all discuss conspiracy theory style pseudo-archaeology, claiming there were lots of "white Indians" here before Columbus got here.

I'd also like to ask our Cherokee members about what I found here:
http://www.angelfire.com/ok2/knowinglady/ArticName.html
"As taught to me by Richard Craker, the spiritual leader mentioned above, the Chickamauga believe that your ‘soul' name can come to you on a "Vision Quest;" they are also given by any Chickamauga "A-da-wi-hi" or "Medicine-Man" of other S.E. tribes in lieu of the actual ritual. Such names are not just a given name or a "handle" to use casually, but are to only be used in healings, ceremonies, and by the closest family or clan members. Other types of names are old 'clan names' handed down to an individual by their clan mothers; "war-names" given or taken for rank or personal protection in battle; and lastly, "familiar names" given to you by your own family upon your birth. These last kind often changed as you grew out of the, or into another, identity. It could be taken alone, and if the name stuck with the family and the tribe, then that was what you were called. With a "familiar name," you were safe from strangers who might wish to "bewitch" you! With your 'Soul' name you had a power to grow into, a ritual name to pray with, and any ceremonies done with your 'Soul' name and clan was far more effective in achieving your purpose."

Here's what Comanchelodge had to say about them. How much is true I don't know. Vance has said before in here that Darren McCathern of CL has a lot of his history wrong.

Sac River & White River Bands & Historical Fraud
What is Historical Fraud?
Well in the case of Cherokee Tribes allegedly located in Missouri, you will find no greater example of outright Historical & Genealogical Fraud.
In 1992 The Sac River & White River Bands of Chickamauga located in Missouri had made all sorts of false claims, one of which included the Amonsoquath whom they have been affiliated with since the days of their splintering from the Northern Cherokee.
This associated group of frauds during this time in the early 90's published false documentation and then attempted to pursuade officials and other ignorant people of a fraudulent constitution where this false documentation made the claim that in 1895 Redbird Smith and several other prominent well respected Cherokees formed a group made up of three bands of alleged Cherokee. (All located in Missouri....Naturally) :o)
These groups were allegedly to be called the Eastern Cherokee Indians of Missouri & Arkansas, and a phony document full of errors and inconsistancies was distributed by the Sac River & White River Bands in Missouri as being an
authentic document.
Besides the inconsistancies of both simple things such as location and historical errors, it is almost hysterical to consider that after a period of no
less than 110 years of my people being known as Arkansas Cherokee or Western Cherokee, that they would then in 1895 revert back to being called the Eastern Cherokee.
That premise is a complete absurdity when you consider the facts that during this time period there was a fight for federal recogition, hostilities between parties such as Ross, Ridge, Watie & the Old Settlers, and yet these same White River Cherokee people go back over 11 decades in time to take on the name of a people they seperated from that resulted in their own Nation WEST of the
Mississippi River.
Apparently these imbecils are incapable of understanding reality. The only Eastern Cherokee in the year of 1895 resided in a location hundreds of miles EAST of the Mississippi River in the state of North Carolina.
The claims set forth by the Sac River & White River Bands in Missouri are not only outrageous, they give the public a means of looking into the hearts of these wicked people that engage in these attempts to steal the identity of a people from which they do not descend.
Their hearts are so sick and black that they even go so far as to attempt to CHANGE the historical location of an entire NATION as a means to pull off their disgusting scam.
This document which is entirely false was published for the purpose of committing a genealogical fraud by the attempts of this group to claim that
Redbird Smith (a respected Keetoowah leader) supported this phony document that claimed lands in Missouri. This area of land (of course) was the general location of where this group operates from today.
No surprise there. This document that cites the respected Redbird Smith is entirely based on fraud as the Cherokee Nation at no time in the past ever made Federal Treaty claims to lands in Missouri.
This document is in direct conflict with the federal treaties on which Indian Law is based, and this false document goes so far as to claim that the Cherokee Nation in 1895 was claiming land in Missouri for several counties in the state.
These counties were, Green, Polk, Cedar, Dade & St. Clair Counties.
The Cherokee Nation, nor the White River Cherokee people never made such claims
to lands in Missouri, and it is clear from evidences supplied by the Smithsonian Institute that not only are these claims false, that during the same time period the boundries of the Arkansas Cherokee were well known and maps were made that
outlined the truth according the Federal Treaty made with our people.

educatedindian:
Pt 2
In 1884, a map was made by the Federal Government concerning the Arkansas
Cherokee lands as based upon the federal treaties made with the White River Cherokee People. These lands made it quite clear that the Cherokee Nation held no lands in Missouri a full 11 years before the false document was claimed to have been made.
Apparently the people of this group must have ignored this simple fact, and went ahead and published a complete lie as a means to alter history to make it seem as if there was Cherokee lands in Missouri that was being claimed during this
time period.
The only conclusion one can come to concerning this issue, is that this group fully intended to defraud both the unenrolled Cherokee people by deception, and also to commit Federal Treaty fraud by the utilization of false claims as a means to obtain lands illegally by deceptive and illegal fraud against the Cherokee People themselves.
This types of felonious actions is the foundations on which these groups are based.
This document claims these bands were known as the White River or Southern Band, Sac River or Stockton, and the Northern also called Green Band according to this document.
All three of these bands have no historical or political ties whatsoever to the White River Cherokee people that resided on the Arkansas Cherokee Reservation.
In fact, these people are out to decieve the public today as much as they did previously by the use of false documentation.
The Names appearing on this document were individuals whom in no way, shape or form were ever affiliated with the White River Cherokee. In fact, those whom are claimed on the document as being Cherokee were never Cherokee to begin with as you will learn later in this page.
The use of the name of Redbird Smith was used in an attempt to legitimize the claims that there were Cherokee tribes in Missouri, which as is well known is entirely based on fraud.
That type of abuse is inexcusable, and it shows the willingness of this group to deceive the public and even the Cherokee people themselves in their attempts to alter history to make it seem as if the Cherokee lived as tribes in these areas in Missouri.
I can assure you, the White River Cherokee and those responsible for leading the people as found in the federal documents never removed from Arkansas to Missouri. So in effect these false claims made by this group and its affiliated tribes are based on blatent historical fraud.
The facts remain that the Cherokee Nation never ceeded any lands to the United States that were located in Missouri. If our people had been claiming land in Missouri as these people have attempted to claim, then these lands would have been part of the argument of the sovereignty of the Western Cherokee Nation in 1846 when the fight for separate federal recognition was fought in the federal courts.
However, that is not what took place. The only lands claimed by the Old Settler Cherokees were the lands found on the above mentioned map which as anyone can plainly see was located ENTIRELY in the State of Arkansas as found in the
records.
This group from its separation from the Northern Cherokee has engaged in fraud and continues to do so by utilizing the name of a Historical People whom never resided within the State of Missouri period.
Can't escape that simple truth folks!
The Sac River & White River Bands has also been known to cook up their famous money making scam of what is known as an Associate Membership as a means to belong to their fake Cherokee Group for those people whom have no proof whatsoever of Native Ancestry.
This Associate Membership scam begins at $25.00 for one member of the household with each additional family member paying an additional $10.00 so that they can participate and receive their group Newsletter that is filled with New Age
Rubbish called the Chickamauga Phoenix, which is no doubt in honor of the Newspaper of the Eastern Nation that was well known to be Anti-Arkansas
Cherokee.
These New Agers should be real proud, after all they honor the name of a newspaper that sponsored propaganda based discrimination against the very people they claim to be descended from.
How many Indian people do you know that would make that kind of mistake?
Not only can you be adopted into this group by their Chief, you can pay a little cash and regardless of a lack of documentary evidence you can sign up your whole family as Cherokee Associates for just 10 bucks a head!
Quite the bargain eh? :o)
This associate membership along with all the white ancestors of people that this group has been falsely claiming as Fullblood Indians over the years, certainly leaves something to be desired for real researchers.
Just think... You don't even have to be an Indian to join this group, spread a little bread to these Wannabe White River Cherokees and you too can become one of these famous Missouri Cherokees and join in with their traditional Cherokee
Womens Sweat Lodge Ceremonies and "Smoke Off" with the best of them. :o)
One of the sad things to come out of the fraud perpetuated by this group is the people affected by this scam. Nothing proves this fact better than the numerous people whom have been misled to believe false claims concerning their own ancestors.
