A lot of Turtle Mountain people in North Dakota are Metis. I heard it said the term Canadians originally originally meant the courier du bois, the Metis in the fur trade. Seems that some frauds latched on to the term. I think it was fraud Harely Reagan who used to refer to his followers as the Deer/ Metis Tribe. Correct me if I'm wrong.
