VANCOUVER (News1130) - The RCMP is expected to release more information today on the theft of twelve Bill Reid pieces from UBC's Museum of Anthropology. The famed artist's widow, Martine, is now insisting a reward be offered.

Both Martine and members of the Bill Reid Foundation say cash may be the only way to keep the items, many of them made of gold, from being melted down and sold. Among the twelve pieces taken was a box made from 50 sheets of gold.

There is still no indication of exactly how thieves managed to nab the art work. The museum insists security is tight. This morning, the loss is still sinking in for those who loved his artwork.

The break-in happened sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. The display case still sits empty, as a stark reminder the art world is mourning a devastating loss.
