Lakota, Nakota, Dakota

Hi,

I'm curious on these three names.  Looking at words, does 'kota' mean something, and the 'La', 'Na', and 'Da' signify something about the 'kota'?

The Lakota-Dakota-Nakota means "friends" or "allies" also known as the Sioux.
The Lakota, the Dakota and the Nakota are part of a band of seven tribes
that speak three different dialects.
The Nations are Lakota-Dakota and Nakota
example: Koda-Kola-Kona all mean freind or allie
The La-Da-Na refer to our dialect we speak
which is the "L" dialect, the "D" dialect or the "N" dialect.

The Lakota are the western most of the three groups,
occupying lands in both North and South Dakota.

The Nakota, the smallest division, reside on the
Yankton reservation in South Dakota, (the Stoney and Assiniboine),


The Dakota live mostly in Minnesota, Nebraska and
the Northern portion of Standing Rock Reservation, and Canada .
Today's spell is Kota which really is Koda-Kola-Kona

Is the Assiniboine on the Yankton rez the same kind of Assinboine as found on Fort Peck? I understand that they are both related people, but I often hear of the Assinboine of Fort Peck being spoken historically as different people whom were enemies of the Lakota, Nakota, and Dakota.

I always heard this and figured it might be similar to my people and the Chickasaw. We had been the exact same people once, and split apart sorta recent in our history, and then became mortal enemies.

The Asssiboine were at one time
Yanktonais who lived in northern Minnesota
They traded with the Cree and developed a relationship with
them to the point of intermarriage
they form a new nation called the Assinboine who speak a mixed
language of Dakota and Cree.
Today the Assinboine fight with their brothers the Yanktonais on the
Fort Peck Reservation and I believe a lot of it is due to resources .

There are Nakota and Dakota reserves in Canada, in the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

yup we have our nations in North dakota-South Dakota-Wyoming-Montana-Nebraska-Iowa-Minnesota-Wisconsin-Michigan-Manitoba, Saskatchewan-Alberta the area of my nations and we are 14 reservation
