Q: Is this a fraud.

A: Yes.

"Shamanism" is an inappropriate term for traditional Irish ways. Nothing on what I've seen of that site is traditional Irish.  It looks to be a group of people selling misappropriated, twisted attempts at NDN ceremonies, mixed with Wicca and Harner shamanism. They're not doing traditional Irish spirituality, nor is what they are doing Native American.  They are pretendian exploiters in fake Irish garb.

Tribes are something you are born into - a land-based community that carries on a traditional, indigenous culture. To call a group of people gathered for a pay-to-pray workshop a "tribe" insults contemporary tribal peoples, as well as our tribal ancestors. It also exploits lonely people looking for a quick fix - for spirit and community - the way you'd buy a drug, rather than build something real over time.

While they've posted pictures of some ancient Irish artwork, what they describe as their beliefs and practices is not Irish. They've attempted to clumsily translate some misunderstood, misappropriated terms and ideas from Indigenous American ways into modern Irish. They're doing violence and dishonour to all the traditions they are ripping off, mangling and selling.

Their teachers are a who's who of known frauds, many of whom have their own threads on this site: http://www.slianchroi.ie/about.htm

Their ridiculous misinformation on this page is laughable; it is full of gross inaccuracies that even a beginning student of Irish Mythology would immediately spot. Again, its their attempt to misrepresent Irish mythology by ignoring the real traditions and stories and pasting them onto some misappropriated, pan-NDN mess:  http://www.slianchroi.ie/rites.htm

They are also involved in spiritual tourism to Peru, where non-Indigenous tourists buy "Shamanic Initiations" and other ceremonies. Pretty standard, shameful stuff.

There is a rich, vibrant tradition of earth-honouring Irish spiritual ways. It is really tragic when frauds like this exploit the outer trappings and imagery of those traditions in an attempt to get away with their misappropriation and exploitation of Indigenous cultures.

what is ndn?

Defend the Sacred

It's Internet shorthand for "Indian" as in Native American, First Nations and/or Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island.
