The Sheriff informed us that they were told (of all things to say about natives I was in shock over this) we were protesting against a veteran who had just come home from the war.  I am positive they saw by our reaction that nothing could be further from the truth.  As the police left they waved at us, realizing we were there in a good way.

She (or perhaps in this case her supporters might've called the cops) are just full of stereotypes, this time about supposed "radicals". I don't want to sidetrack this thread too much, but most of the abuse done to returning vets these days comes from war supporters, done against antiwar vets.

Or perhaps she just is completely ignorant about how many NDNs are vets, or all the support NDN communities give to vets. Whoever made that call must  have not heard of Lori Piestewa or Ira Hayes.

Greetings,

I was at the gathering on Friday evening. We drove for over and hour to get there, and we did not know that the event had been cancelled. I understood that there was a donation for adults only. I assumed that this was to cover the cost of renting the room. I have been going to workshops and gatherings for decades, and I have never paid for prayer or ceremony. We usually donate more than is requested to help cover the travel expenses and time of the speakers and presenters as a giveaway. I don’t remember anyone saying that they "Paid to come and Pray" I said that I thought that the purpose of the gathering that evening was for prayer and to connect directly to the Earth through the energy of the drum. We were very disappointed to not be able to experience the vibrations of the drum. We have had many family transitions lately, and my intention was to be energized and renewed by the sounds of the drum. We are new to this area after living in central Ohio for twenty years, and we were also hoping to meet some like-minded people. That is all we expected. My husband is a drum maker, so I am sure he was also interested in seeing how the drum was actually made.

I did not think it was a Native American drum or associated with any Native American person or Native American tribe. We were actually surprised to see so many Native Americans in the room, because we did not expect to see any. I never thought that I was going to receive any Native American teachings that evening. By the name “prayerformance??? it is clear that the major purpose was entertainment and enjoyment. It was not intended to be a ceremony. I thought the purpose of the drum was for global unification and world peace. I found out about this gathering from a friend in New Mexico who had seen the drum last fall. I just read her e-mail again, and it said nothing about Native Americans.

I have heard many Native American teachers in Ohio and in Michigan over the last three decades. I respect the teachings, and I appreciate when the elders are willing to share their teachings when they can. Out of respect for the Native American community, I do not intrude by asking for personal teachings. I was taught my whole life by my parents and elders that there are many paths to the same truth. Those are the roots of my spirituality. Finding my path means learning the many traditions just as my parents, uncles and aunts taught me.

There seems to be some confusion about the meeting time on Friday evening. We arrived at 7, and it was over at 8:40. I was told it started at 6:30 when the room was available. I do not understand the controversy about the blood inside the drum or who has blessed the drum or not blessed the drum. I would like to know more about that. I do know that both women and men have traditionally been drummers on this continent and all over the planet.

It seems in the future, it would be most helpful if you would arrive early at any public gatherings with the grandmother drum, perhaps hand out flyers at the door explaining anything that you believe to be fraudulent, then either leave or join in on the drumming. I do not think that you have any legal authority or authority from the creator to prevent those of us who would like to see the drum and participate in our celebration of life with the sounds and vibrations of the drum. I also do not think you can judge whether that is a fake experience for me or for anyone else. The gentleman who said that was being very disrespectful to me and to the spiritual path that I have been on for the last 53 years. I have the ability to decide for myself what experiences are meaningful for me. Healing comes from the creator, not from any medicine person. It can happen at a drum circle, the gift of a flower or from an herb. Even if White Eagle Medicine Woman is “fake??? or insincere in some way, I can still have an experience that makes me feel more whole and more in balance to deal with the many stresses in life. I can still have the opportunity to meet some new friends.

I have been in many circles in my life of many forms. I have never before been in a “circle??? with the intention of attacking one person and disrespecting the spiritual path of many others. I am very disappointed. It was a lesson to me that what appears to be a circle may actually be based on fear, not love. I understand the source of your anger as much as I can, however I do not think that attacking a woman with a big drum is an effective outlet for such hostility. No one is going to get rich from traveling around the world with a drum. Please hand out informative flyers at public gatherings if you like and just let the drum have its time and space, Trust that it was brought into the world for some reason and perhaps even a few people may experience joy or even healing from its presence.

Peace and Joy

I originally logged on this morning to let most of you know there is a new video out you might want to see made by one of our supporters who was there yesterday.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=qNDbkPQg8RM
Now I feel I must answer EuropeanAmerican.
In the first place you were obviously misinformed.  Rachel Holzwarth is the real name of the woman you came to see with the grandmother drum.  If you were there you heard her say "Do NOT call me Rachel, that is not my name", yet that is the name she gave to the Fish and Wildlife Agent who was there to escort her out so he could confiscate her ILLEGAL eagle feathers.  It is against the law for a person to posess feathers from migratory or protected species without a permit and she knew this yet CHOOSE to break the law.  That is the type of person you came to see an admitted criminal.
Further, the "Prayerformance" was cancelled by her, not us.  We were going to stay outside and protest.  She is the one who choose to cancel the "Prayerformance" and meet with us so people would not have to hear about it from outside.  To enter her "Prayerformance" you would have had to pay $33.00 in advance (no break for children) or $40.00 at the door.  She charges the organizations that host her drum $2500.00 plus travel expenses to bring her there, or 60% of the door take whichever is greater, plus she gets 100% of the sale of the items (baby drums, rattles, etc.)
I can direct you to several news articles as you heard mentioned by one of the people who was there on Friday (Weymouth, Ma. where the blood was rubbed on the drum by her, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Alaska, Australia, etc.) where it is described as Native American.  You would also have heard one of the people there mention several Native Reservations and HIGHLY respected leaders, some of whom were on the telephone (except for when one of her supporters unplugged it, we only found out yesterday that the interuption in the telephone was intentional and who did it, although we don't know his name he was in the back of the room standing next to our young cancer survivor, who said Ms. Holzwarth "did not want the burden placed on them" {our healers}, so we all saw his face.) causing one of the people to move into the center of the room to reinitiate the call.  You saw all this so you would know it to be true.
I am sorry, but I consider this an act of sabotage when our respected leaders are intentionally disconnected from a conversation where in Ms. Holzwarth's own words, " We are honored to welcome all those that have voiced their feelings through emails or phone calls to come in a peaceful way to resolve these concerns. We also welcome all those who feel called and would benefit from this kind of circle."  As all readers here know we struggled to bring these leaders to us, but do to funding issues, (for your own edification people living on reservations in this country often do not have running water or electricity and are below poverty level incomes, some at just over $2,000.00 per YEAR), we could not get them in.  So one of the people (not with Ms. Holzwarth, actually the one who crawled, in extreme pain, on their hands and knees to the center of the room to reinitiate it) paid out of their pocket for that telephone conference call.
Also, traditionally the original people, Native Americans, the women do not do the drumming on a big drum, but only use hand drums.  This is known to all who know the people who were here first.
Apparently you must have been paying such intense attention to what was being said (or you left early) that you lost track of time because (if you were still there) you would have heard Ms. Kathy Gayoski (the moderator) trying desparately hard to get the talking stick (microphone) around the room so everyone had a chance to speak, say we only had the room for another 20 minutes.  The room was reserved until 10:00 and we continued to speak after that and I personally did not get out until almost 10:30.  The room was actually available ALL day.  Ms. Holzwarth requested  a private audience with only one of our grandmother's and a representative from Ohio, (Oh! and of course the Fish and Wildlife officer ascertaining Ms. Holzwarth did not leave without him to be able to confiscate the eagle feathers), until 6:30, the meeting of the minds was actually supposed to start at 6:00pm, so it was late.  Yes the "prayerformance" was supposed to start at 7:00pm.
As for the drum, it might be prudent to tell you, the blood is not inside the drum, inside the drum are human remains.  They are those of a woman who died with her in Australia (and she couldn't heal her).  The blood was from one of our warriors, her is a first hand account of the blood being placed on the drum.
"White Eagle Medicine Woman came over to the spot on the gym floor near me where the policewoman had subdued her opponent ... The police picked him up and started force walking him towards the exit doors.
She noticed that his blood was on the floor. I watched her put her right hand down on the hard wooden floor, wet with his blood, and then deliberately rub her right hand around on the little red puddle. Then she paused and rubbed both hands together. She went to the drum and rubbed the blood off her hands and onto the drum skin. Her actions were eerily calm, slow and deliberate, in great contrast to the commotion and noise around us. She was not speaking."

This is the type of person you were going to pay to see.
The statements I have made here can all be substantiated by newspaper artciles, or by your own eyewitness account, or in the case of the disconnection by eye witness account of several of the people there.
You witnessed the voices of the people there who spoke from their heart, you know this to be true, search deep within and listen and the creator will tell you all you heard said that evening to be true.

Thanks for the video, mtig49. Thanks for all of them.

I wonder if EuropeanAmerican is even a real person. Of course he's real, but you know what I mean. This post could have been written by Holzwarth's public relations people. Guaranteed it'll appear in her next newsletter. Something to think about.

to EuropeanAmerican (is she i thinks she was sit over by me)

I drove three times what you drove to be there with my wife and 10 month boy. I dont know how you could misunderstood that there was only donation when you pay upfont 35 or 40 at the door. you say "I have never paid for prayer or ceremony" but you payed to be there that day! or you were going to pay before White Ego Woman choose to cancel. Im sorry you lived in ohio for so long. Nothing against ohio by it is a state without native tribes or tribes the way the US goverment list them.

i was down there last summer and someone came up to me and told my if i gave the $$$ i could be part of there made up tribe of ohio. maybe now you just move to michigan which i one of the top ten start for number of native people you can start to learn some real things. If you want to hear real drums there is a pow wow coming up around the 10th of May in fowlerville michigan. Im not 100% on date check around.

one of the best things you do say is "I was taught my whole life by my parents and elders that there are many paths to the same truth." that was one of my first teaching as a kid in or creation story in that story told us that many people was made not just here but the lands on the other side of the waters and all got there creations story's and all these story are true. because they all come from one place. but you must have not read up on you you were about to pay. there is a lot of website and bio were she says she native and list her native knowledge.
she also list people she says that bless the drum and what she dose but they never have or will every and she was been told to stop that.

as for your words "either leave or join in on the drumming. I do not think that you have any legal authority or authority" do you remember that there was a Fish and wildlife officer there! what about his authority or when the IRS get a hold of her! Which they will. If she thought fish and wildlife was hard just she want for that knock on her door.

Please next time be inform before you pay someone for a ceremony

EuropeanAmerican:
I was not only taught, but raised to see and experience, by going into churches and synagogues, for months on end with many people; as I was taken from my mother several times in my life (that is what was always done to our families, read your history books), and by my mother so I would learn to be tolerant and understand other people and respect the differences.
Having experienced all this, the one thing that came across clearly was the need to respect the sacredness of another culture and NOT try to IMITATE their religion or use it for my own purpose.
This is of what you heard us speak.  If you could not listen to what we said, it is because your ears were closed, come and we will dust them with a feather, that you may hear.
Be open and let your heart hear what we said, We were not there to abuse her, we were there to teach her and help her understand the error of her way.  I personally have contacted her on several occasions to try and explain the issue, but my pleas fell on deaf ears.  She would not respect lone voices, but when we came together as a group to speak, we were there to tell her she had to stop, did she listen, hear?  I think not, because she appeared to think it was only Michigan speaking.  She will continue to face our people as she travels this land.  She faced it in Australia also for as you know she started by telling us there were nations in Australia where the grandmothers would not let her play her drum  in their lands.   She told one audience of an Australian "fighter" (I do not know their correct term for what we call a warrior so I humbly apologize and use the term she did) who objected to her coming to their land and there was a problem of which she did not speak further.
Considering it is not just our land and people who object, I would think there is a lesson for all. Respect the traditions of all nations, they are not yours to use as you choose.

This is a letter she advertised on her own webpage.
"I am unable to be with you in person on Fri but I am praying for you and all those who are in pain, anger etc. and are stuck in the past ways of creating change. I will also be with you on Fri as time allows and during the time you will be meeting. Thank you for Rev. Whites message yesterday. I also was sent a channel from Archangel Michael who talked about reconciliation being part of the energies for May and caught a glimpse of the end of news that the Canadian Govt. is issuing a formal apology to our indigenous peoples for the harm that was done by the residential schools. So you are in the midst of a big shift. Thank you for holding your part of all of this Love and light,-Dianne, Vancouver Island, Canada"
So if the Canadian government can apologize for what it did, stealing from the Native People of North America why can't she?

She just may need to bump her head a few more time in other natives lands to open her eyes that this is just the start of the storm. When her eyes are open see will see that the voices she heard the other night rings out for all parts of this land and other natives lands on this side of the water and on the other side of the great water.

In the teachings from my people of creation, In beging there was just a sound that sound was thought of the great sprit from that one thought everything was made.
thats the power we seen a part of this weekend with all of us natives having one voice we also have one thought. With one thought we have the power of creation

Having watched the video and thinking on all this, a reality suddenly hit.  Can someone tell me why, Rachel did not want the meeting recorded.  Yet the AIM members knowing they were being taped did not hide their faces and were talking openly, unafraid, even when the police were there.  This just seems very odd the person who claims to the entire world she is in the right, hides her "open meeting" from the public eye and the people who are purportedly (according to her) the aggressors do so in the open eye of the public in front of the police, unafraid and unashamed of their actions.

Attend to my words those of you who follow this Grandmother Drum.  Listen to what I am about to say and ponder on it.  Do you detect anger from the Native Community?  Yes you do and hurt as well.  Why, you ask.  We are just trying to reach Spirit you say.  Listen well with your ears as well as your heart.  We have had our lands stolen, our women and children tortured and killed by the hands of those like you.  We have had our children stolen and their minds subverted by your civilization.  In your spiritual bankruptcy you have even tried to take the method that Creator gave to us as a means of communication and interaction with Him.  Do you not understand, the ceremony that the Creator gave to us we are allowed to share sometimes with those who we have proved but we are not allowed to sell or pervert it for it is not ours.  It is only loaned to us as a means of worship and one through which we may have a relationship with Creator.  He is the true owner.  When you steal , borrow, change or otherwise corrupt the ceremony  you are really stealing from Creator.  Does it not make sense that when one does this it offends the Creator.  We the Native Community have been given the responsibility to watch over these ceremonies to keep them correct and pure so that our relationship with the Creator will be a good one.  We  will admonish any one who attempts to steal or corrupt ceremony we have no choice.  We have given up enough we will give up[ no more.  These are my words  and I am as always "LittleOldMan"

Can you imagine this expoitation being put on the internet, and her making concessions on tape? And being confronted also by the Wildlife people. She wants no record ot that on the internet for all to see.

one to change or lie about what happen there or at lest twist it to fit what looks best for her.

Im really starting to think that there is a part of White Ego Woman that enjoyed what happen. If not enjoyed then to use it to serve her big ego! The thought is coming from something she said what her people (love how her people change to serve what she going to say next, which i could do that!) unjustly persecuted for there earthy religion in Europe (witch!) were burn alive. In her head she see that she is being unjustly persecuted just like them or natives were persecuted against. than that way it can add to the big ego she has.
