American online newspapers unavailable from Europe
(1/1)
Sparks:
This is an example of a message which I get almost every day when trying to read links from the forum:

--- Quote from: https://notices.californiatimes.com/gdpr/latimes.com/ ---While most of our pages are available in a version of latimes.com created for European Union users, some are currently unavailable. We are engaged on the issue and committed to identifying technical compliance solutions to this problem. Thanks for your interest in the Los Angeles Times.

The reason is the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, which American news outlets are very aware of:

There is a way around this for readers in Europe, and for their benefit I will soon be back with suggestions.

A new example, see this comment:

My workaround was using a browser with built-in VPN, namely this one:
https://www.opera.com/
--- Quote ---Built-in VPN to help you browse safely
Reduce online tracking and shield your browsing from everybody besides you. Our built-in VPN has got you covered.

Sometimes Opera works well in this respect, but not always. Still looking for a perfect solution.

The problem persists. Latest example:

Clicking the link yields:
--- Quote ---451: Unavailable due to legal reasons
We recognize you are attempting to access this website from a country belonging to the European Economic Area (EEA) including the EU which enforces the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and therefore access cannot be granted at this time.
--- End quote ---
Has anyone else run into this and found a possible solution?
Laurel:
Sometimes (not always) I can get past a paywall if I disable Javascript on my browser. It might leave off images and comments, but I can read the text.
I'm in the US, and I know very little about computers, so I have no idea whether this will be of help, sorry.
