I've only seen the trailer of this - but it looks good. The gushing followers will seem very familiar to those who read the words of the fraud-defenders who show up here.

Synopsis

"Kumaré is a wise guru from the East who indoctrinated a group of followers in the West. Kumaré, however, is not real--he is the alter ego of American filmmaker Vikram Gandhi, who impersonated a spiritual leader for the sake of a social experiment designed to challenge one of the most widely accepted taboos: that only a tiny "1%" can connect the rest of the world to a higher power. Concealing his true identity from everyone he meets, Kumaré forges profound and spiritual connections with people from all walks of life. At the same time, in the absurdity of living as an entirely different person, Vikram, the filmmaker, is forced to confront difficult questions about his own identity. At the height of his popularity, Kumaré unveils his true identity to a core group of disciples who are knee-deep in personal transformation. Will they accept his final teaching? Can this illusion reveal a greater spiritual truth? Kumaré, at once playful and profound, is an insightful look at faith and belief."

You can also get it from Amazon.  It is a three day rental for $3.99 and you can stream it to your computer.  You don't have to start watching it immediately after you order it, but your three-day rental starts once you start to watch it.

This is a very important movie for any logical thinkers, skeptics, and would be so very important to the true believers if it could sink in as a reality.

It show how easily someone offering what is to white culture exotic spiritual knowledge can scam people.

However, as with the believers in the various religions, they can recognize that Kumaré was a fraud, they will tell you how other religions and teachers are frauds, but their Savior du jour is the real deal. Our society conditions us that appearances trump your inner Voice, and it is not surprising that so many stifle their own mind in order to shape it to the form any given 'Teacher' tells them is 'the Truth.'

Please do watch Kumaré, then apply that lesson to whatever you have been taught.

The web site created for this experiment http://www.kumare.org/home/

Link there with several possibilities for watching the movie: http://www.kumaremovie.com

Freely available on YouTube (1:21:40): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMXAhYRLBuQ

However, that version is dubbed into German, which might be a deterrent to many?

That video is no longer available. However, I found another full-length version (1:24:15) with original English soundtrack and Portuguese subtitles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xu2z2CGVxQ

This is a great documentary! I've seen it a couple times and the most interesting aspect to me was that even after he revealed himself to be a fake guru, folks were still saying that he was the real deal..
