The show’s story began with
the main characters, three
American Indian boys, laughing
and playing in the woods as
young boys do. However, their
merriment came to end when
they suddenly realized it was
time to go home. It was late,
and they had wandered further
from their village then they
thought; they were lost. They
met an aged warrior by the
name of Mesingw, the spirit of
the deer, bear, and other
animals of the forest. Mesingw
took one of the boys by the
hand and led him on a journey
through wide rivers and
beautiful forests to show him
the way home.

ug where do they come up with stuff

I didn't follow the link posted, but just thought I'd mention here Philip Deloria's Playing Indian.  Looks like it's out of print but you can still get it used on Amazon, and probably in libraries. http://yalepress.yale.edu/Yupbooks/book.asp?isbn=0300071116.  Also, there's a segment of a really old episode of This American Life that referenced professor Deloria's book specifically as it relates to youth and camping (you can listen for free on their website). http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/109/notes-on-camp.
