Title: Tantra Abuse Forum
Post by: Lodro on September 02, 2010, 05:59:31 am
Off topic, I know, but I'm now seriously considering opening a branch affiliate of NAFPS devoted to abuse of the term "tantra".  ::)

Title: Tantra Abuse Forum

I think its very much needed Lodro, in my younger days i studied Eastern Medicine, I studied the 5 Element theory, took beginning and intermediate in Jin Shin Do Accupressure, i was received my Reiki Attunement from Fran Brown, 4 Generation Master (theres only 1 real Reiki Lineage all the others are imposters) and studied Mantak Chia's works for many years, and trained in Medical QiQong under Master Po, Chang Yee.
(LoL  this is what happens when you leave da Rez to go to university and end up renting a room with someone who ended up being President of the Massage Therapy Association in New Brunswick)
I never studied Tantra, and never would. What i learned was the Rise of the Kundalini Serpent, is a Life-Phase that happens on its own, when your body is ready. Even one of Peter Ross Voigt links in the other thread clearly states, it takes 20 years of work to raise the Kundalini Serpent, (he then goes on offering classes, i wonder how many of his students noticed that sentence in his introduction).

But this is very dangerous, Sifu Dr. Ko (QiQong Master) teaches:
he focused energy of internal power - chi (qi) - can badly damage the novice or beginner. Learn the body's normal reactions-and its warning signals-before you begin the practice of chi (qi) cultivation. Always learn the exercises from a truly qualified and certified instructor and not from somebody who has just had a weekend seminar or 30-day short course on qigong and believes themselves that they can teach it to someone else.
It can even lead to psychosis > Zouhuo rumo. see the wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physio-kundalini_syndrome
Finally everything ive learned stated that orgasm is too be avoided during all of these exercises, it will spend all the energy you have worked so diligently to raise up.

I also think it's badly needed, but doubt I could do more than offer encouragement.

Just doing a search for Tantra fake or Tantra fraud turns up some interesting links, including a book with a warning on Fake Tantra, and another article with a warning at the bottom.

The entire book Stripping the Gurus is online and has lots of information on various abusive gurus or faux-gurus.

We also would be glad to give advice on how critics may try to shut you down and what to do about that.

Just in case your wondering whether i still practice all those Modalities i mentioned.
The answer is No.
My introduction to the awareness of UG Krishnamurti and his influence in my life put a stop to ALL that....  as well on my Native Spirituality side, it coincided with the exact time i had to say No to the pan-indianism which poisoned our Mi'kmaq People.

Post by: amorYcohetes on September 22, 2010, 06:18:21 pm
This is really going off on a tangent, so rather than start a new etc. thread I'll post here...  I was just really struck by a post linked by an Indian-from-India (Hindu) friend on FB, about what might be the most infamous spiritual misappropriation of all time:

Yes certainly, although the Indian revolutionaries who founded the Indian National Army were only too keen to claim that here "the eastern swastika joined the western (i.e. Nazi) swastika.

but this is going off on a tangent indeed.

I'd also be interested in such a forum. My neighbor went to India a couple of years ago with her husband and said that yoga and gurus are a cottage industry in India. The problem is that because India receives so much money from these industries in the form of tourist and travel dollars, the government there is very hesitant in doing anything or step in or regulate.

Gullible Westerners fall for these stories they've read in a few books from these gurus, many Australian, Canadian and American backpackers are there staying at ashrams because they're cheap and they can easily get marijuana. These ashrams make a fortune and they pay off governement officials who look the other way. The gullibility factor plays a similar to what the Plastic Shamans do.

There are a number of significant problems with regards to the tantra abuse forum.

That is not to say that it will never happen but there are problems that require very serious consideration.

The levels of criminality of some of the groups involved are very high.  It is, to my knowledge, impossible to establish a completely anonymous web forum, (especially as corrupt LEOs are involved on a large scale).  Some of the groups involved are extremely dangerous.  Whoever starts up such a website will inevitably become a person of interest to a number of extremely dangerous, well resourced, well connected criminal networks.

I agree that it is important to warn people about these groups but I think that how it is done and by whom is a delicate subject and one that should be the subject of much careful consideration.

If you have some experiences to share then maybe it is best to share them here on this thread, if you feel comfortable to do so of course.

I am not particularly technologically savvy, but I came across this link about creating leaks sites (like wikileaks) and thought of sharing it, in case it is in some way relevant to any activists here.

http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Create_a_Hyperlocal_Leaks_Site

"WikiLeaks has changed the way whistleblowers, document-leak sites and media organizations operate. In its wake, other similar sites where users can anonymously submit documents are cropping up, many with a hyperlocal or topic-specific focus. The Wall Street Journal announced Safehouse last week. Al-Jazeera has the Transparency Unit. Russia has Ruleaks. Tufts University even has JumboLeaks.

Leak sites, it seems, are here to stay. Here’s how to get one started.

This article is part of a wiki anyone can edit. If you're 133t with the leaks, please log in and contribute..."

Has anybody some info on a Lama Ole Nydahl? He made it to my radar a few weeks ago. He is a student of a certain Kalu Rinpoche:

I wonder if there is some kind of tradition?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2012/oct/08/tibetan-lamas-buddhism

"Kagyu Ling was founded in 1976 by the late Kalu Rinpoche, in response to a surge of interest in Tibetan Buddhism among western spiritual seekers. Kalu Rinpoche died in 1989. Within the last two years his reincarnation, the present Kalu Rinpoche, has assumed responsibility for the institutions set up by his predecessor. But during Kalu's childhood the situation at Kagyu Ling allegedly deteriorated to the point where it no longer functioned as a Buddhist centre. The young Kalu sacked Lama Tempa and five other resident Bhutanese monks, replacing them with westerners and a "collegiate" system of control and responsibility."

Has anybody some info on a Lama Ole Nydahl?

He brought to Scandinavia some Tibetan monks who performed ceremonies. I watched them and listened to his introduction, at the Edvard Munch museum in Oslo, Norway. This must have been in 1972 or 1973. I bought then his and his wife's 1972 Danish-language introduction to Buddhism, a book I found lacking in some respects, with outrageous claims, so I decided their version of Tibetan Buddhism was not for me. Many others thought otherwise.

Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ole_Nydahl
Ole Nydahl (born March 19, 1941), also known as Lama Ole, is a Danish Lama in the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. Since the early 1970s, Nydahl has toured the world giving lectures and meditation courses. With his wife, Hannah Nydahl (1946-2007), he founded Diamond Way Buddhism, a worldwide Karma Kagyu Buddhist organization of lay practitioners.
[…]
Jørn Borup, a professor of religion at Aarhus University, says that […] "[Nydahl] and his Diamond Way Buddhism is in no way representative of Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism or the teachings of the Karma Kagyu lineage."
[…]
Martin Baumann, a professor of religion at the University of Lucerne, remarked in a newspaper interview "when I listen to his [Nydahl's] alarmingly superficial formulations in his talks I can understand his critics who say that he is presenting a watered-down 'instant Buddhism', a sort of 'Buddhism lite' for the West."
[…]
Nydahl's version of Diamond Way Buddhism features "prevalent militaristic appearances, right-wing political views and fierce anti-Islam rhetoric;" …

Quote from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_Way_Buddhism
Diamond Way Buddhism (Diamond Way Buddhism - Karma Kagyu Lineage) is a lay organization within the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. The first Diamond Way Buddhist centre was founded in 1972 by Hannah and Ole Nydahl. It is led by Ole Nydahl under the spiritual guidance of Trinley Thaye Dorje, one of two claimants to the title of the 17th Karmapa (See Karmapa Controversy). There are approximately 650 Diamond Way Buddhist centres worldwide.
