Shane Norte, Church of People for Creator & Mother Earth NO LONGER A CONCERN

(1/3) > >>

DoctorLao:
Greetings and kind regard to all.

I would be immensely grateful (and more than a little interested) to know if anyone here can perhaps advise or shed any light upon a figure of recent notice - and ‘high’ alert suspicion (lighting up my ‘black light’ radar):

SHANE NORTON

This name first came to my attention short weeks ago.

“Ah distinctly I remember, it was in the bleak September” (with apologies to Poe)

The circumstance that led to my first acquaintance with Norton was a piece of journalistic narrative, carried by several 'news' outlets, that (ahem) “tripped” instant 5 alarm ‘red alert.’  Dressed as a feature story (“with fleece as white as snow”) it was posed like glad tidings that should be of joy unto all people (let the rejoicing begin - "go shout it on a mountain" etc).

NBC news was the first Kamp USA loudspeaker from which I learned of this ‘story’ (naked propaganda):

ENVIRONMENT A psychedelic awakening led a former Navy SEAL on a mission to save monarch butterflies https://archive.is/CgszO#selection-2465.0-2465.87

NOTE 1 (a 'shadow context' of this 'news story'): Issues of ‘environmental crisis’ have been increasingly exploited as an idiom of 'convenience' for covertly pushing “psychedelic awakenings” (Timothy Leary resurrections) - for example as remarked by R. Petersen (July 11, 2020):

Sam Gandy (Imperial College London) strongly advocates for psychedelics as an environmental solution. As evidence, he marshalls… a study linking psilocybin to increased nature relatedness, and an online survey showing psychedelic users report more pro-environmental behaviors (such as recycling and conserving water) relative to other types of drug users. In a paper “From Egoism to Ecoism,” Gandy & colleagues confirm the connection between psychedelic ego dissolution and nature-relatedness, obliquely insinuating DECRIMINALIZATION [here capitalized for emphasis, see below] is a viable environmental strategy… Gandy has even suggested psychedelics could play a role in “converting nature skeptics.” Similarly, UC Davis researcher David Olsen has posited that psychedelics could be used to turn people into activists by introducing climate concepts during their trips… who among the target demographic would knowingly participate in such an experiment [?]… it is deeply disturbing to see members of the psychedelic research community gesture towards brainwashing, even with the best of intentions. https://archive.is/7HyN2#selection-1211.4-1277.365  (July 11, 2020 Rachael Petersen)

NOTE 2 (current context): Based on independent investigations and analysis, 'Decriminalization' figures as a cultural appropriation steamroller of stealth psychedelic agendas (to be directly related, further below, with Person of Interest Shane Norton):

REFERENCE (Nov 11, 2020) Re-rationalizing psychedelic entrepreneurial exploitation: ‘inclusion’ & ‘access’ (scripted cultural appropriation) > “Decriminalize Nature argues peyote (etc) should be accessible to everyone” [as mutually entitled] “not just Native Americans. The Navaho have opposed the movement” > https://www.reddit.com/r/Psychedelics_Society/comments/js81s8/rerationalizing_psychedelic_entrepreneurial/

In this 'news' story (‘psychedelic awakening saves butterflies from extinction, and heals a veteran’s PTSD in a single stroke') Norton’s name figures nowhere. No more than some “man behind that curtain” starred in a spectacle staged by the Great & Powerful Oz.

Among unfamiliar references not M.I.A. from coverage - one was Guardian Grange:

[37-year old ex Navy SEAL Mark Matzedlelaflor] said that he tried "magic mushrooms" for the first time with a friend and that the psychedelic awakened in him a new resolve. "I just reconnected to nature and …” turned that realization into a nonprofit organization called Guardian Grange, which aims to use nature to help veterans cope with trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and other issues that come with transitioning back to civilian life] https://archive.is/3ZAn5/again#selection-1177.26-1185.100

(NOTE A glaring propaganda feature I observe in common between this ‘news coverage’ as scripted “to use nature” - and Decriminalize Nature – is covert dog-whistling exploitation of the innocuous word ‘nature’ as a crypto-synonym for ‘psychedelic’)

I was led to Norton in the course of investigating this ‘Guardian Grange’ reference. His name and claims to fame began to emerge (as if from behind a curtain).

Another new name: “Church Of The People For Creator And Mother Earth” – founded by Norte ... Native ... Spiritual Leader.

With these names now revealed, that news coverage had concealed (prejudicially ignored, denied due credit - another injustice) the investigative plot thickened.

The following I try to present in a ‘dark room picture development’ order (rather than chronologically):

2) (July 22, 2021) MYCOPRENEUR “Today we have the absolute privilege of hosting Shane Norte, Founder of the Church of the People For Creator and Mother Earth - a member of the Morongo Band Native American Tribe - also National Board Member for the Decriminalize Nature organization  #MEDZZZTOOSTRONG https://shows.acast.com/mycopreneur/episodes/shane-norte

Shane Norte is mixed ancestry with a majority bloodline of Native American... enrolled in the Morongo Band Of Mission Indians that have blood-ties to the Paiutes, Lakotas, Serranos and Luisenos. Currently, he operates a church on his lands on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. His mission is to help those seeking to better their spiritual knowledge and overall knowledge about being a better Indigenous person and human being here on Earth.  From their website: "We are 501(c)3organization state registered church Here at the Church of the People for Creator and Mother Earth we seek to teach and to inspire the uttermost respect amongst each and for the spaces we occupy as Native People. This church is based out of the La Jolla Indian Reservation near Palomar Mountain. Our goal is to rejuvenate old lost ways of ceremony and worship and to provide a safe space for ceremony and to heal with the changing of times and adapting to the new days for the people. We also wish to establish beautiful communities again based off of new and old ways to which our ancestors used to live here in balance with Creator and Mother Earth." churchofthepeopleforcreatorandmotherearth.com

With stout-hearted wishes and gratitude to all - especially for any sources anyone here might be able to offer of informed perspective on this Norton and this little 'Church' non-profit business - or any light of guidance anyone here might shed.

DoctorLao:
I apologize for an unpardonable oversight on my part.

The name is Shane NORTE - not "NORTON" as I so mistakenly had it.

Sparks:
According to his father’s obituary, Shane Norte seems to be whom and what he says he is:

https://www.wiefelsmortuary.com/obituary/Jeffery-Norte
"Jeffery is survived by… his 7 beautiful children, Shane Michael Aaron Norte, …”.

Shane Norte's affiliation to this tribe is confirmed in that obituary:

I cannot find differing bio details any place, which is so common with genuine frauds.

Interesting title: "Shane Norte - Native Mushroom Church[/b]”. — The concluding URL in there is not clickable, I will repeat it here:

https://churchofthepeopleforcreatorandmotherearth.com/

This is where we can find out most about Shane Norte’s claims and ambitions. Unfortunately, red letters on black are almost impossible to read (for me); I’ll have to copy the text into a word processor and look more closely at it.

Some links in DoctorLao’s first post have nothing to do with Shane Norte; they address more general issues, which I will try to sort out and comment on in the near future.

educatedindian:
The big concerns would be if he is who he says he is. He clearly is Native, enrolled. There's no sign I can see of him doing anything for profit, no seeking out people to charge.

He is promoting psilocybin, shrooms in slang terms, for healing and spiritual use. He doesn't seem to be operating a drug church using the cover or religion to get high and avoid getting charged or jailed for being a drug dealer (unsuccessfully) like we see with James Mooney and Oklehuevah. (Mooney is also an imposter posing as Native.)

Psilocybin was and still us used by some tribes in Mexico for spiritual purposes. I don't know of any tribes in the US that did. But if Norte is doing so, it'd be much like the NAC using peyote. Used to be only in Mexico, but spread further into the US.

AFAIK psilocybin use among Natives doesn't have any legal exemption recognized by the law the way peyote is for NAC members. He and his church face the real threat of jail, which you can argue is unjust.

One grey area I see is some of the church members are not Native. Some are wartime vets. I know there are cases of Native inviting white army buddies into sweatlodges to try to heal their PTSD.

Obituaries like that one are not fact-checked. They are usually submitted by a family member or friend of the deceased. Some people write their own in advance and have it on file with the funeral home. Many obituaries contain inaccurate information. I'm not saying this one does, or does not. Just that it can't be considered a reliable source.

The detail that he was waked and buried on tribal lands, if true, does support that he was a member of the community. But obituaries can't be relied on unless backed up with other sourcing.
