Leon Carney

Mr. Leon Carney is our ceremonial Medicine Man for the Ghost Dance.  The event will be held on his private land in Chandler, Minnesota which is near Pipestone, Minnesota – where the sacred stone is quarried for Native American pipes.  This land has been used for many sacred ceremonies such as Sun Dances and Vision Quests as well as many others.  The location of the Dance is a place that mystical things are experienced in the benign. It is important that he and his land are honored and respected at all times.
Leon is Vice President of the Keepers of the Sacred Tradition of Pipemakers (an international Tribal non-profit organization). He was Medicine Man for the Okipa Ceremony in North Dakota and this is the second year as a Medicine Man for the Ghost Dance.  As a member of the Nature Conservancy, Leon’s 300 acres with the Chanarambie Creek running through it, is noted to be one of the most pristine places in Southwest Minnesota. Leon set legal precedence against the Minnesota Court systems to protect the Native Prairies.  His property is a registered archeological site and is sacred ground.

The ceremony will be held at 242 – 61st Street, Chandler, MN 56122 on Sacred Native American Ceremonial land. (From I-90 to Exit 26 to I-91 North to Chandler). We will begin at 9:30 AM on Saturday, June 24th, 2017 and it will last until…

Here's an article with Leon Carney. It appears he's supporting some white people who carve and sell pipestone from the Pipestone National Monument. They're upset that some Tribes are objecting to their selling the pipestone and want to shut them down. Obviously Leon Carney supports them.

I've looked up this Leon Carney on Ancestry.com and so far he appears to be white. I've looked up his mother and she is white, having a little trouble figuring out which Arthur Carney is his father. Here's his birth record,

Leon Charles Carney in the Minnesota Birth Index, 1935-2002

Natives and accomplices have been commenting on their Facebook page about how wrong and offensive this fake "Ghost Dance" is. The newagers who run the page have been deleting or hiding all posts from Natives. ("All the white people will be Indians, and all the Indians will be ghosts.")

Though the main advertisement post linked above looks to be hidden today, their main FB page is still up, and full of offensive content: https://www.facebook.com/WindoverFire

They are still advertising events run by and for non-Natives as "Native American" ceremonies. And they are still mentioning their fake "Ghost Dance".

There are a number of warriors talking about going to confront these men in person.

They love the idea of dead Indian spirits coming to bless them. They don't much like living Indians speaking their minds. It's not going to stop. They prayed to hear the voices, well here they come.  :D

I asked a friend on Ft Berthold if he ever heard of this person and he said no, my friend lives in the Mandan area and works with those teaching the Mandan language and to be a medicine man for the Okipa (which this Carney claims to be) you have to be Mandan blood

WindOverFire.com is down. It seems unlikely to be a coincidence. Either trying to cover up what they are doing, or more hopefully, they could be trying to change. They had another phony Ghost Dance only last year.

I looked at it a few days ago and thought they deserve their own thread. Much of it is wishful thinking general Nuage stuff, much of it outright obvious fraud. Starting a thread.

The Ghost Dance is this weekend, please use social media and lets try to get some NDNS and supporters to protest and document everyone that participated in this "event"

(My emphasis in quote above.) The site is up again, but all references to the 2017 Ghost Dance seem to be removed. However, the 2016 event is still there. In case they delete that one, too, I will quote everything except the lodging, camping and restaurant parts. Except for the dates, it seems that the 2017 event was advertised with exactly the same wording?

GHOST DANCE – A HEALING EVENT FOR ALL, 6/25/16, CHANDLER, MN
JUNE 25, 2016 @ 5:00 AM - 8:00 PM
ghost-dance4
June 25, Chandler, Minnesota
Native American Ceremony and International Event
Begins at 5AM on June 25 and goes until…

A NEW BEGINNING
We have reached critical timing with all of the environmental concerns that affect our planet: the effect of global warming, the lack of water, the pollution of our water resources, our food, which affects our health, and the disregard for our brothers and sisters of all Kingdoms. With the sickness and dis-ease of so many people, NOW is the time to restore our earth, honor our ancestral lineage and bring harmony back to the land.

You may ask why now? Why the Ghost Dance? Because there are those of us around that knew the Earth Mother as she was with clean water, air, and soil before commercialized farming and the unsustainable practices of today.  It is time to call upon those people and the memory of our ancestors to support our efforts and counsel our ways. It is time to dance to clean the waters, and return the forests and prairie grasses to the sacred ground so that we and our descendants may walk in beauty.

The Ghost Dance is an early Native American tradition and is performed to regenerate, revive, restore, redevelop, stimulate and reinforce healing and well-being in all life forms. As in all ceremonies, the Ghost Dance is done to honor our Sacred People – our ancestors and to restore our Earth Mother and all her inhabitants.

The Ghost Dance was once called the Spirit Dance or Ghost Council, where the dancer connected to these Spirits … the Sacred People of the Elemental Kingdom (Air, Water, etc.), the Plant Kingdom, the Animal Kingdom, the Ancestors, our Earth Mother and the Creator.  This connection honored them and they in turn imparted many gifts, including spiritual and healing gifts, upon the participants. The effort each individual devoted into the preparation and execution of their dance was returned to them… as all spirits see our true heart and our intentions!

Like many Native American ceremonies, this dance had long gone underground in the cloak of darkness, as many of these ceremonies had been forbidden. That time is gone; now, it will be held in the daylight – transporting it out from the darkness into the light.

LOCATION AND DATE
The ceremony will be held at 242 – 61st Street, Chandler, MN 56122 on Sacred Native American Ceremonial land. (From I-90 to Exit 26 to I-91 North to Chandler). We will begin at 5:00 AM on Saturday, June 25th, 2016 (pre-sunrise) and it will last until…

If you want to be present for the opening of the event, we suggest you arrive on Friday to set up and begin with the opening ceremonies.
We. Preparations and ceremonies will begin midweek prior to the 25th.

Opening Prayer – Susan Stanton, UN Delegate to the World Indigenous Conference.

Opening Song – White Buffalo Cow Society Members led by Karen Sparrow – Karen began this journey in the 1940s when her Cherokee uncle led her to a circle of women and told them to teach her to dance. She is one of the Founders of the Thunderbird Society (a Native American Culture Group) – Native American Delegate to Japan to represent an American City.

Opening Remarks – Leon Carney – Ghost Dance Ceremonial Medicine Man.
The “dance” is performed in a circle with mostly slow, walk-like, movements. Though this is a traditional ceremony, fasting is a private choice and not necessary.  For those that have physical restrictions for any reason, there are always multiple ways of participating in this event whether you are able to be active or not.  All are welcome as this is an important healing ceremony.

Prior Midweek Preparations and Events:
For those of you who wish to arrive earlier around midweek (Wednesday – Friday), there will be healers, storytelling, campfires, talking circles, possible lodge, and set up occurring during this time. More details on days before this event as the information become available.
This is a sacred ceremony and shall be treated as such.

WHAT YOU MAY NEED TO KNOW
Because it is a traditional ceremony there are plans to have food available on the day of the event only.  However we ask that you bring for yourself, foods for any other day that you plan to be with us as well as supplemental food, snacks and water for your needs.
Picnics are welcome – food, water, snacks
You will need chairs and/or blankets
If you use insect repellents (however this area is NOT prone to mosquitos) please use a natural/organic product if possible
Sunscreen
Clothing to layer, hat
Canopies/umbrellas are welcome for shade
Drums and rattles
Your personal staff (see below)
Propane stoves for cooking only (there will be some fire available for cooking from the organizers)
We will have open fires with talking circles and/or storytelling in the evenings and daytime
We prefer no pets – if there is a need to have a pet with you, please contact one of the organizers.
A willingness and openness to participate in the mystery of connecting with the earth.
Tolerance of everyone’s medicine.
A full tank of gas as it is a very rural setting
No controlled substances, alcohol or firearms
Your attire:
This Dance is to heal the past and therefore the only requirement is to be respectful above all things. The pageantry of regalia is a beautiful thing to see at a Native Ceremony; however it is not required.

Regalia – traditional Native American clothing embellished with beads and could be make of buckskin or broadcloth.
Dresses, long skirts and shawls are more traditional, but not necessary.
Moccasins or bare feet are more traditional, but not necessary.
Staff – our staffs are the “calling card” for the Spirits to recognize who we are and that we are participating in the Dance. They are used to create the arbor for the dance circle and all are welcome.  They will be placed in the ground to create the circle that we will dance in. However, if you don’t have one, it isn’t necessary. If you choose to make one, the following items are typically what and how they are represented:
The staff is usually wooden and is approximately your height.
It traditionally has a crooked top.
Each are represented, something that walks on the ground, something that lives underground and something that flies in the air (a rock, a feather, fur).  These staffs are embellished with items that represent YOU and your personal journey.
