Eva Rosenn, Shamanic Healer
« on: June 24, 2010, 04:05:05 pm »
From this site:

"Marked from birth, taught the beginnings of voodoo in Brazil at the age of four, and having written a master's thesis on the performative language of the Navajo Night Chant, I received the first call when I was in my twenties. I tried to follow it, but in those days teachers of shamanism were pretty thin on the ground. So I went on with my life, and it was only when my husband became extremely ill years later that I received the second call in a dream and the third call in person two weeks later.

I am a graduate of the Eye of the Eagle Two Year Program in Shamanic Studies with Leontine Hartzell and the Jewish Shamanic Healing Two Year Training Program with Rabbi Gershon Winkler and Miriam Maron. I have been initiated into Peruvian shamanism by don Martín Pinedo Acuña and don Umberto Soncco Quispe; I have also studied with dona Julia Farfan Carazas, as well as with curanderas dona Isabelle Chinguel and dona Olinda Pintado. I have also studied soul retrieval with Sandra Ingerman, Tibetan soul retrieval with Larry Peters, depossession and curse unraveling with Betsy Bergstrom, and Bear Medicine with the Elder Bear Clan. I am a member of the Society of Shamanic Practitioners, and I am also a Reiki Master."

I can't get over these 'shamanic programs'.  She sure jumps around.  I found her just doing a search on bear medicine to see what kind of frauds came up...I found others on here (white wolf woman) already, but this Eva Rosenn didn't show up.  Apologies if you already have her.

Rosenn's in law, artist Manuel Colunga Hernandez, wrote asking this thread be removed. I've asked he or she or anyone else Rosenn wishes make a statement explaining their position.

There was also a threat to sue. That's yet another over reaction like we've seen so often before, people who misread what was said about them and demand no one even be allowed to ask questions. Plus you'd think people would realize by now, it's never worked.

Really, all this has done is draw attention, where no one had even responded to the initial request before.

Here was my response.
------------------

Your in law is listed under Research Needed. Thus far all there is at the listing is the initial request for more information.

Looking at the listing, she apparently studied under a "teacher" widely considered a fraud who exploits and makes false claims about Native cultures, Sandra Ingerman. The problems with that approach are discussed here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20030817075852/http://users.pandora.be/gohiyuhi/nafps/articles/art01.htm

Your in law's ridiculous claims of being an expert in a wide variety of traditions is also suspect. One cannot possibly know disconnected bits and pieces of "Peruvian shamanism" (which doesn't exist), curanderismo, Tibetan traditions, Voodoo, and somehow be qualified by that to practice "Jewish shamanism."

We will certainly investigate further. Any statements you, she, or others wish to make we will gladly include.

I would be very interested to know more about this person learning "voodoo" in Brazil aged 4.

The "Jewish shamanism" thing just sounds completely wrong.

google for "Jewish shamanic healing" turns up a facebook page here

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=354478461178&index=1

offering courses at a cost of $1425 per week

the page has a link to the page of Rabbi-Miriam-Maron

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=354478461178&index=1#!/pages/Rabbi-Miriam-Maron/10150118757005487

I cannot get the website link on the facebook page to work

re Eva Rosenn's website;

Her description of shamanism is similar to that given by some Jungian psychotherapists who seem to have misunderstood what shamanism is and just see it as some kind of universal spiritual system found in pre-industrial societies.

Her youtube channel is here http://www.youtube.com/user/skbaum

there is a video here

http://www.youtube.com/user/skbaum#p/u/2/4AxS-oBVOK4

that is all about Jewish shamanism.  or something

not time to watch it now but will check it out later

Not to me, as a concept, because pre-rabbinical judaism has many elements that would be called "shamanistic" if we were to encounter now, and some of these customs (e.g. shaking the lulav on sukkoth) survive to this day. So, theoretically, I think winkler has a point. But is eclecticism, and his non-discriminate "borrowing" from every shamanistic tradition under the sun strikes a false chord with me. I also think you cannot reconstruct judaism in the way he wants to do.

On the other hand, a student of mine, also jewish, attended a big tibetan buddhist ceremony, and remarked on the shamanistic elements in the rituals, and how she felt she could connect more directly, because under all the ritual, there is also this shamanistic undercurrent in judaism.
