Hunting White Buffalo
« on: July 02, 2006, 08:05:36 pm »
Not fraud, but definitely offensive and sickening.

"White Elk Ranch is located at an elevation of 8,500 ft. Airport
service is available in and out of Gunnison. Some of our hunts are
done at our 11,000 acre ranch near Sidney, Nebraska. All food,
lodging, and trophy care are included in the price of the hunt. No
daily fees are charged.

At the White Elk Ranch, we offer a variety of unusual animals not
found anywhere else in North America. We have the only herd of
European Buffalo (Wisent) in the United States.
>>>We are the only ranch to offer White Buffalo hunts. <<<
Our Yak herd is the largest in
the country. More trophy Reindeer have come from our ranch than
anywhere else.

At our Nebraska ranch, we have the largest herd of Pere David Deer
in existence above 5,000 ft. elevation. Our Red Sheep are raised
further north than anywhere else. The limestone cliffs in Nebraska
make the ideal habitat for raising trophy Mountain Goats.

For the hunt of a lifetime, give us a call. I am looking forward to
hunting with you.

**Breeding Stock Available at request**

Exotic Species:

White Buffalo, European Bison, Reindeer, Yak, Bighorn Sheep, Red
Sheep, Armenian Mouflon, Transcaspian Urials, White Elk and Pere
David Deer.

They are into canned hunts.  They provide the tame animals for the people to kill.  The Humane Society is working to shut these groups down.  You may want to check their site as to what to do.

Oops, I forgot -- these animals are near extinction.  The wisent is protected throughout Europe, and zoos are trying to bring the animal back.

They are using animals from areas which restrict any hunting of them, and selling them in the US where there are no restrictions.  Many of the animals are protected under international treaties as well.

In case of the wisent, it's even worse: they were extinct and have been re-bred from domesticized animals, and as far as I know, most wisents will live in zoos or protected areas like parks. Zoos etc here will sell a surplus of animals when there are more animals than they can put up.

Canned hunts seem to me to be an evolution of the turkey shoot, a festival practice popular among colonials up until about 1900 or so.  In my opinion, evolution of a backwards sort.  Can't imagine taking a bunch of pride in hunting someone's farm animals, but then, letting these "sport" hunters get their thrills on farms might keep a few of them away from the few truly wild places that remain.

Offering white buffalo hunts though...that's a new low.
