There has been controversy over this popular "mindful somatic psychotherapy" practice called Hakomi Method, because 'Hakomi' is a Hopi word. The name supposedly came in a dream by a anthropologist student of Hopi Elder, David Monongye. This person (David Winters) then supposedly asked for permission from David Monongye to use the name for their psychotherapy practice and was granted it. This isn't the first time a non-native has made claims through David Monongye. Now it's of course impossible to verify any of this since Monongye passed away years ago. This is a Buddhist/Taoist inspired body-based psychotherapy practice with a Hopi name. I'm wondering if anyone has anything else on this Hakomi Institute. Thanks!
