Heather Macdonald AKA Starseer, fraud in the UK
« on: July 12, 2005, 05:29:09 pm »
Met a woman who called herself Starseer (real name Heather) at the UK PowWow this last weekend. She claimed to be an Honourary Mohawk Medicine Woman and practices "Spiritual Guidance, Readings, Talks and Workshops" according to the card she gave me.  She said she "had a dream and went to Canada, met a Mohawk medicine woman who taught me" (heavily paraphrased...sorry).

I've personally never heard of an "Honourary" medicine person so I'm asking for a bit of guidance. (The link to my roots is not as taut as I'd like it, growing up off -rez)

No Starseer claiming to be Mohawk trained in the UK has any website I could find. I dont think you should worry about not being rez raised, it sure never stopped me...
Do you remember the name of the alleged elder? Does her card give a web address or email? I never heard of honorary medicine people either. Finding out who this alleged elder was is the first step. Chances are it was either one of Twyla Nitsch´s people or Penny McKelvey (calls herself Oshinna Fastwolf and claims to be Mohawk and Apache). Once we pin down her claims we can write up a warning or if youre inclinedto or feel strongly enough about it you could confront her or picket or flyer her places of business. All of this is to cut into her profit margin and let her know her line of BS isnt acceptable.

I sent her an email asking her story and this is what she sent me.

"  Hi, nice of you to contact me.  If you heard my story in detail that explained everything.  In essence this is it... In 1991 I was sent by Spirit on a Quest "to be on an Ancient Iroquois burial site on a river that had salmon and the birds shall rise" -thus I found myself on Cornwall Island.  To receive permission to be on the burial site I had to meet with Harriet,  Bear Clan Mother who, after talking with me all night, presented me with a medicine bag and next day asked me to give her nephew healing.  (I have been active as a Healer since 1980) After which, she pronounced me Honorary Mohawk Medicine Woman.  It is as simple as that on one level, though I have been made aware that I have lived many lives in many various tribes.  In this life, my father was French Canadian.  I am in the process of writing the whole story as a book as it was quite amazing how, with such minimal direction, I managed to find myself in that particular Mohawk community.   Hope all this help you.
Good Wishes    HEATHER Starseer"

Her answer stinks like a dead fish. The whole idea of honorary is that IT IS NOT FOR REAL. Just like Costner's honorary Lakota tribal membership didnt give him rights to try to build a casino on sacred land, and Clinton's honorary Cherokee membership didnt mean he could run to replace Chad Smith.

I've been given medicine bags by strangers before, but that didnt mean anything beyond they felt I needed protection or thought I would like the gift.

And if she truly was Indian in her past life, ask her to prove it: Ask her to write her response entirely in Mohawk, no using a dictionary, no going to actual Mohawks for translation. If she cant she's phony. Also remind her that reincarnation is what those OTHER Indians, Hindus, believe in. She's got her Indians (among other things) very confused.

You can pass this along to her if you wish, or use it in any kind of a write up or warning about her.

No, that's not her. This woman was quite thin, looked to be be in mid to late 50's and wore glasses.

Greetings,
I am familiar with the ‘Twisted Hairs’ and their methods as I knew a few of them in San Diego, CA. They tried to get their hooks into me when they found out I was interested in my Cherokee heritage.  I met Greg Bright Eagle at a drum making class, and he proceeded to cheese his way towards indoctrinating me, claiming to be a Métis medicine man.  In ignorance I started working with him, but as soon as we got into any real detail I established that he was full of it, and so was the Dear Tribe.  One dead give away is that they do not speak a tribal language, do not know the culture, are often negative about a specific culture, and do not recommend practicing one specific way of spiritual faith.  In my case I was interested in Cherokee legends, the language, and the warrior ethos within the Cherokee culture.  These were important to me as a young Marine.  It seems all of Harley’s people run the same game, and I attribute it to what they were taught.  I would only give one word of caution.  These people are cult based, and some may be violent.  They are known for exploiting young adults, and people that lack personal confidence. I had to often intervene between these people and unknowing young teens (I lived down the hall from them).  If Heather knows of Greg Bright Eagle (dead now), then she is old school ‘Swiftdear’.  Just think through any actions you take, and make sure you are legally covered, as well as using common sense.  Good luck and good hunting.

Thanks Sox. Can I ask where was this pow-wow exactly, and did she tell you whereabouts she lives? I'm in SW England and am wondering whether I might bump into her down here since it's kind of like S. California - everything bonkers just sort of gravitates this way.

Hello Matt, thanks for the warning. I have no direct experience of Heather Campbell but what I do know of her doesn't give me cause to worry about my safety, physical or legal. (Why don't these dimwits just get their 'spirit helpers' to take out people who annoy them?) I think she probably has no real connection with Deer Tribe members here, but was exploiting her past membership of it in her publicity.

Has it occurred to anyone else that 'Harley Reagan' sounds like a drag act's stage-name?
