Siri Rishi, 47, a Native American yoga and meditation teacher, dances and sings a mantra in a field in Sagaponack, N.Y.

Siri Rishi, a 47-year-old yoga and meditation teacher in New York, is my third subject. A Native American, she has been practicing meditation since her father gave her a book about it when she was 19. I photographed her in Sagaponack, N.Y., as well as during a gong meditation session at the RA MA Institute for Applied Yogic Science and Technology in Manhattan, where she teaches Kundalini yoga, a form of yoga that connects students with their own energy.

Siri Rishi, 47, dances while singing a mantra in an open field in Sagaponack, NY, October 28, 2018. Sagaponack is a Shinnecock Indian Nation word which has about 1,200 enrolled members currently. The tribe belongs to the Algonquian-speaking Native Americans who lived in the eastern end of Long Island. Siri celebrates her Indigenous American roots, especially in Nature. 'Nature is an extension of us,' she says. 'We are nature.' Siri is a yoga and meditation teacher in New York City and East Hampton, NY. Siri grew up in Connecticut to ancestors of the Mohawk-Mohicans tribe.

Our ceremony "the vision quest" helps us clarify our existence. It is intended for those who are seeking personal growth and spiritual guidance from the Great spirit. We honor the memory and vision of our ancestors, we offer our fasting of water, food and speech to the essences of the 4 directions as a prayer, asking for guidance, protection, love, peace and clarity on our journey. We pray, for the guidance and inspiration of the Great Spirit, for the expansion of consciousness in infinite gratitude for life and all our relationships. We will be setting up and working on the land on Tue April 17th for the vision quest. 4 year commitment required. Lead by Abuela Malinalli And Xochitlquetzalli with the support of Shimshai and the Moondancers of California.

I'm initially interested in Tamara Malawitz because this is a new article in The Washington Post that leads with a photograph of her and the identification "Native American yoga and meditation teacher" https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/magazine/wp/2018/11/14/feature/four-photo-essays-from-remote-corners-of-american-spiritual-life/?utm_term=.155c4d49ffc3 . So she likely will gain new interest and followers.

Her heritage claims seem vague and flaky. Why does she identify as "Native American"?

She is a devotee of Yogi Bhajan, who was a destructive cult leader (Info: https://www.culteducation.com/group/795-3ho.html)

Check this event out - it is basically a slumber party that participants have to pay for: https://everythingsoulful.com/gong-journey-with-siri-rishi-kunanate/

"Abuela Malinalli" mentioned above …

There are three different spellings of Abuela's surname so far in this thread:

• "Abuela Malianalli", which according to Google only to be found at:
https://everythingsoulful.com/gong-journey-with-siri-rishi-kunanate/.
• "Abuela Malinalli" yields about 4,000 hits in Google.
She is often mentioned as "Abuela Malinalli, Chief of the Moondance of Teotihuacan, Mexico".
• "Abuela Malinali", approximately 275 hits, including a YouTube playlist of 34 videos:

Googling “Wisdom Keepers from Connecticut” as an exact phrase yields only three hits. The link above plus:
