I would like to put in a few words on Barbara Crandalls behalf here.

While not enrolled in any federally recognized Cherokeee tribe, she was taught by her parents that graves were ringed with water to keep the spirits in. She thought that the ring at Newark was such a structure, and when the Ohio Historical Society decided to renew the lease with the golf course, she led a prayer protest at the main ring a Newark. You have to remember that the Ohio Historical Society is a private organization and not part of the government of Ohio, and thus is bound by neither NAGPRA nor NARFA (the Native American Religious Freedom Act). Thus they could lawfully jail Barbara Crandell and those who were with her.

[I need to mention here what I believe to have been burials which were ringed, at Marietta, at Smithland, and finally one at Piqua at the Johnson trading post, the last two of which were definitely not ringed by Cherokee. I also need to mention here that my understanding now is  that the complexes at Newark were used to hold ballgames in the spring and teach the constellations ( White Hawk in Shawnee, the Man who married two star maidens in Cherokee) in the fall. That said, I am pretty certain that there are a couple of "high status" burials within both sites, and that is all that I am going to say on them here.]

My understanding of it is that given the Ohio Historical Society's behavior, and the lack of any action then by any of the federally recognized tribes, Barbara formed the ONAA to speak up.

She hired lawyers. She also gathered together some 4 four self filing cabinet-full of materials on the actions of the Ohio Historical Society.  It turned out that the people of Newark bought and gave the present site of the golf course to the Ohio Historical Society to be used as an educational site, not as a golf course. The golf club was set up to maintain the site when the Ohio Historical Society ran out of money during the Great Depression of the 1930's.

The final item I need to add here is that Barbara has many friends who are also outraged at the actions of the Ohio Historical Society.

I spoke with two of them, and what they told me was very interesting. It turns out that for years people had been donating their finds of "arrowheads" to the Ohio Historical Society, thinking that they would be well taken care of. The recipients would go through these donations and pick out what they wanted for their own personal collections, and sell the rest.

Once again, given that the Ohio Historical Society is a private group, and not part of the State of Ohio, there was nothing illegal in this.

I have no doubt of the truth of what they told me, as they were well placed to know, and local lithic collectors confirmed what they said.

The younger Collins, Michael, sent this account of the family history and the reburials. […] Matthew Jay Collins

These people need to be moved to frauds.

If they were still active, I'd certainly agree. But the bingo hall ended six years ago, they have no online presence since then. I don't even know who currently claims to lead them or if they even have anyone. There seem to be a couple scattered people still saying they are Tallige, but no organization, no one teaching their claims. That's why I'd say move to Archives.

Tallige Cherokee Nation has been active up to 2017 as a Facebook Profile:

https://www.facebook.com/talligecherokeenation.cherokeenation

I found this there (remember it's not a Facebook Page though, but a personal FB Profile):

Hello everyone I would like to ask you a favor. There is a web-site called nafps http://www.newagefraud.org/smf/index.php. Please contact there admins they allow anyone to post lies on there site. With no proof any whatsoever Tallige has been always upstanding. And my father Oliver Collins was always doing what he could to help Native people. As many of you know he passed away a few years ago. He deserves better than this from the ones that posted the stuff. Most of them are people that he become to call family and when they didn't get there ways they turned on him and Tallige. He taught his culture to anyone that asked and he asked for nothing in return. He was not out for money or fame im sure most of you know. If you didn't know him then you missed out he was a stern father but always had a hug for anyone. So if you would please contact the nafps and ask them to delete the post about him and Tallige. A Attorney has been made aware of these matters and suggested i try this first. I myself have already contacted them and they haven't replied. I and my father appreciate it thank you WADO.

The surname Collins has been mentioned many, many times in this thread, especially Oliver Collins. About three years ago, one Tom Collins published more than two hours interview with Oliver Collins on YouTube. Audio only, and it's not easy listening, I can hardly understand it. For those willing to endure, maybe easier to comprehend what was the story of the Tallige Cherokee Nation of Lucasville, OH?
