Title: Navajo Nation - Blackfire
Post by: czech on March 17, 2011, 08:57:56 pm
JourneyofAction: We spent a week in Flagstaff and Navajo Nation highlighting BlackFire, a Navajo (Dine) traditionally-influenced, sibling punk band that bears strong socio-political messages regarding government oppression, relocation of indigenous people, genocide, domestic violence and human rights. They exemplify the "active" citizens JoA seeks out. Their lyrics are rampant with both happenings and injustices of the past and current struggles that confront their people on a daily basis that many of us will never experience
firsthand.

They're a great band. I have an album and a single along with meeting them a few times.

Lucky you!  :) I liked the video a lot, I believe this is the kind of things non-natives should learn about if they want to learn from the Natives - instead of watching videos of self-styled "shamans".

They have done tours in Europe so I know their message is heard in some countries.

You're right. I've looked it up, they even came to the Czech Republic several times. Good to know.
