Came across someone practicing curanderismo who studied at Institute of Bioenergetic Medicine (IBEM), which is “accredited” by Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations. It all looks rather suspicious in terms of pan_Indigeneity, self-referencing legitimacy, and odd spiritual and cultural practices. So i’m Wondering if the founder Dr. Edward C Sullivan and Lone Wolf Dancing on Thunder are operating a legit practice and school. It looks like quackery - conferring 3 “doctorates” in 3 years for $12,000

https://www.ibemcollege.org/about.html
OUR HISTORY
Founded by Dr. Edward C. Sullivan in 2005, the Institute of Bioenergetic Medicine (IBEM) is a Natural Medicine School located in Centennial, Colorado outside of Denver. Its first Bioenergetic Medicine classes were launched by Dr. Sullivan in 2007. IBEM is the first  doctorate education program of Bio-Energetic Medicine (BD) in North America. We obtained our federal 501(C)(3) non-profit organization status summer of 2014 as a natural medicine school and American Indian seminary.

Today IBEM is a global traditional Pan American Indian Medicine educational, spiritual program. Our graduates practice in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, as well as India, Mexico and Singapore.

OUR MISSION
IBEM is a nonprofit, educational, cultural and American Indian spiritual association (seminary), and a Ecclesiastical Private Expressive Association, as defined by law. IBEM is dedicated to preserving the Pan-American Indian Spiritual teachings. These teachings include the  traditional Indian priest/healers' natural healing practices. This Natural Medicine of the Indians is also called "the Natural Way" (Earth Spirituality) or "Earth Medicine."

Graduates of the IBEM seminary holding the Bioenergetic Doctor (BD), Doctor of Natural Medicine (DNM), and Doctor of Sacred Medicine (DSM) degrees are ordained ministers and priests (Natural Doctors) who minister or practice The Natural Way to the sick and suffering under:

US and international law
Native American Free Exercise Religion Act 1993
Religious Freedom Restoration 1993
Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations Constitution
First and Ninth Amendments of the US Constitution

Each IBEM seminary graduate is a minister and priest of Institute of BioEnergetic Medicine (IBEM) seminary and will assert their rights as American citizens under these laws. As ministers and priests, our graduates are  considered to be Pastoral Health Practitioners and Counselors and Natural Doctors in accordance with traditional Pan-American Indian Medicine practice.

IBEM CREDENTIALS AND ACCREDITATION
IBEM is accredited by Sacred Way First Nations Assemblies (an inter-tribal spiritual society with headquarters in the state of Michigan) and by The Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations (an Ecclesiastical Private Expressive Association of Pastoral healthcare Practitioners and Counselors, who are ordained ministers and priests, or Natural Doctors, that minister to the sick and suffering according to the Natural Way. The headquarters of The Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations  is in the state of Colorado).

?
Followers of the First Nations believe in a simple creed of love, respect, freedom and tolerance:

"We respect Nature and each other. We care for the land and the other living things around us. We believe that no one succeeds unless we all succeed, and we believe that no one of us on Earth is greater than any other."

The IBEM Doctoral BioEnergetic Medicine (BD) coursework is a credentialed program with a diploma issued by the Institute of BioEnergetic Medicine (IBEM).

The Doctoral of Natural Medicine Program (DNM) runs in conjunction with the Doctoral BioEnergetic Program (BD) and Doctoral Sacred Medicine Program.  This enable our students to earn separate degrees in Bioenergetics Medicine, Natural Medicine, and Sacred Medicine at the same time. The BD,  DNM, and DSM are religious doctorates. Ordination to the actual ministry is conferred by the First Nation Church and Sacred Way First Nations Assemblies.

Students taking the Natural Medicine coursework are prepared to test for certification through both the American Naturopathic Certification Board (ANCB) and American Naturopathic Medical Association (ANMA) Certification Boards. Although IBEM is not accredited by ANCB or ANMA, our graduates are allowed to sit for the ANMACB certification examination in Natural Medicine.

The Certified Nutritional Wellness (CNW) Practitioner Program which runs concurrently with the Bioenergetic Medicine Doctorate (BD) and Natural Medicine Doctorate (DNM) programs is also recognized by the American Naturopathic Certification Board (ANCB).

IBEM is accredited by The Sacred Way First Nations Assemblies, Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations and The American Association of BioEnergetic Medical Practitioners.

The following organizations allow the students of the Institute of Bioenergetic Medicine to sit for their certifying examinations:

The American Association of BioEnergetic Medical Practitioners
* (CBP) Certified Biofeedback Practitioner Exam

The Auriculotherapy Certification Institute
               * (ACI) Auriculotherapy Certification Institute Exam
?
The American Naturopathic Medical Association Certification Boards
                * (ANMACB) Allows IBEM students to sit for all boards                          such as Natural Medicine, Master Herbalist, and                                Nutrition

The American Herbalist Guild recognizes IBEM training and credentials as satisfactory for applying to be a Registered Herbalist.

Based upon the Kituwa Society, the Cherokee First Nation cultures and other First Nations cultures such as the Ojibwe, the Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations is an  independent, esoteric, spiritual organization of ordained, ceremonial First Nations Church ministers who engage in natural healing methods of emotional, mental, physical and spiritual problems in accordance with historic spiritual traditions, and teachings of Native Americans.

The principles of First Nation Church are derived from the traditions and culture of the Kituwa Society and the Cherokee First Nations, whose beliefs in Nature and it's creation form the foundation of the church.

Followers of the First Nations believe in a simple creed of love, respect, freedom and tolerance:

"We respect Nature and each other. We care for the land and the other living things around us. We believe that no one succeeds unless we all succeed, and we believe that no one of us on Earth is greater than any other."

Governing Laws: U.S. Constitution, NAFERA {Native American Free Exercise Religion Act (1993).} Religious Freedom Restoration (1993), The Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations Constitution.

OSIYO! WELCOME TO IBEM!
Welcome to Institute of BioEnergetic Medicine (IBEM)! We are a natural healing seminary dedicated to the spiritual principles of Native American Medicine (NAM) which includes North and South America, and the empirical experiences of traditional Natural Doctors. Native American medicine strives to restore balance (homeostasis) on every level of life; body, mind, and spirit.

It does not include the use of drugs or surgery. It includes nutrition, herbs, water, light, sound, fasting, and other natural methods of healing including meditation, visualization, trance induction and counseling in the Natural Way.

Our seminary also includes studying similar indigenous cultural systems of Natural Medicine throughout the world such as Taoist practices, ancient Egyptian healing, Vedic healing, Persian healing, and traditional European healing, including the Western Mystery Schools of healing.?

IBEM teaches Bioenergetic Medicine as a natural system of medicine based on the traditional Native American spiritual teaching that the Creator is a Divine Being of Absolute Energy and that all Creatures including humans are beings of life energy or bio-energy that can become imbalanced and must be restored to natural energetic balance.??

"Traditional Native Americans believe that objective reality is the unfolding of the spiritual world on the plane of physical existence. To maintain that healing only takes place through orthodox Western medicine ignores this spiritual dynamic to the detriment of all. Healing that does not involve body, mind, and spirit can never be anything but partial."

~ Lone Wolf Dancing on Thunder

WHAT IS BIOENERGETIC MEDICINE?

Bioenergetic medicine is a system of medicine distinct and separate from all other forms of medicine practiced today.

It is separate from:

Naturopathy
Osteopathy
Chiropractic
Traditional Chinese Medicine

Recognizing that the human body functions:

Chemically
Structurally
Biologically
Bioenergetically
?Spiritually

It  primarily focuses on correcting  any bioenergetic imbalance in the body.  It is believed that such an imbalance will lead to functional imbalances that can also develop into organic imbalances.

?Ojibwe is a Native Indian tribe that uses the term "kina-gebizhi gomih", which translates to "bioenergetic". Native American tribes believe that all of the universe is connected at the most basic level of matter. Bioenergetic Doctors are able to use spiritual and traditional native medicine to help patients to heal themselves.

WHAT IS NATURAL MEDICINE?

Natural Medicine is a distinct and separate healing art. It does not include the use of drugs or surgery. The Doctor of Natural Medicine (DNM) degree is recognized in 144 countries and also by WHO (World Health Organization). It is not to be confused with Doctorate of Naturopathy (ND) a separate healthcare practice and profession that is recognized in five countries and licensed in a small number of states in the USA, some of which allow a restricted use of drug therapy and minor surgery as part of its practice.

DNMs are not licensed in various states and prefer not to be licensed since the practice of Natural Medicine is safe and poses no risk to the public. Natural Medicine is based on the Vital Life Force (Spirit) and Natural Doctors do not make a medical diagnosis or treat disease. DNM's attempt only to restore balance to the Vital Life Force of their client/patients. When the Vital Life Force of the patient or client is in balance, the patient cannot be or become sick according to Natural Medicine.

"The study of health is essentially easy. Health is homeostasis. Disease, however is very complicated because there are thousands of diseases and more appearing every day with even more symptoms.  Let us travel the path of least resistance and guide our patients who are in need of balance and health (homeostasis)."      ~ Dr. Edward C. Sullivan

Dr. Sullivan (DC, DNM, BD, PhD, DSM) is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and has held licenses to practice chiropractic in Colorado, Mississippi, and Washington.  In addition, he has licenses in psychotherapy in Washington, Florida, and Colorado.  After obtaining a Master of Arts degree in psychology from Antioch University and a doctoral degree from Union Institute, he earned a Doctor of Natural Medicine certificate from the American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board.  Dr. Sullivan obtained his acupuncture diploma at the National Chinese TAI-EE Acupuncture College which was founded in 1836 at Fukien, China.  He also has completed acupuncture diplomas in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Ottawa School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.  Supplementing these diplomas and degrees, he holds diplomas in Biofeedback.

Dr Sullivan's practice specializes in Natural Medicine and the IBEM Medicine Wheel as well as the following therapies:

Auricular Medicine, a needless and painless therapy applied to various acupuncture points on the ear, to treat a vast array of disorders, and
Bioenergetic Medicine, a combination of biofeedback testing and therapy with homeopathic, herbal, and nutritional therapies.

In addition, Dr. Sullivan teaches at the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). He also is a member of "The Central Band of Cherokee" Roll Number 2002, the Oklevueha Native American Church. and an honorary member of the Mishi-Mackinack Confederacy of Ojibwe and Odawa Indians.

In 2007 Dr. Sullivan founded the Institute of BioEnergetic Medicine (IBEM), the first doctoral program for Bioenergetic Medicine in North America.  Through IBEM, Dr. Sullivan has been able to pursue a lifelong goal to nurture, educate and certify dedicated and passionate students in Auricular, Biofeedback, Natural Medicine, and Bioenergetic Medicine.  IBEM also offers extensive coursework in other areas such as Medicine Wheel, Capno Breath training, Bone Setting, Violet Ray Therapy and disease management, as well a a host of other classes.  Dr. Sullivan personally teaches  many of these classes on a regular basis, further demonstrating his commitment to wellness and healing.  He is also a Board Member.

In difficult cases including addiction, pain management, auto-immune disorders, plus other challenging conditions, Dr. Sullivan's practice combines his medical and professional expertise in Auriculo and Bioenergetic Medicines with herbal, nutritional, magnetic, and electro homeopathic therapies to treat and enhance wellness.  He also lectures nationwide.

One of the faculty members, Gregory J. Carroll https://www.ibemcollege.org/gregory-j-carroll.html, says he is a member of Manataka American Indian Council, which y’all have exposed here: http://www.newagefraud.org/smf/index.php?topic=324.0

Quote
Gregory Carroll is very active in a number of organizations serving as the:

Director of the American Association of Bioenergetic Medical Practitioners
Academic Dean of IBEM
Member of the Manataka American Indian Council
Member of CIRCES International
Current Vice President, Treasurer, and Board Member of The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the International Alchemy Guild.

Another instructor, Joan Zinn, studied with Rosita Arvigo (I don’t know what y’all think of her here, but I’ve seen criticisms of her trademarking Mayan traditional practices): https://www.ibemcollege.org/joan-zinn.html
Quote
Early in her apprenticeship, Joan joined the first "Pharmacy from the Rainforest" excursion with James Duke, PhD and the American Botanical Council to Rosita Arvigo’s Ix Chel Farm in Belize, Central America to learn about the rainforest herbs and worked with native healers there, collecting rainforest plant specimens for the National Cancer Institute for U.S. research. Rosita Arvigo also taught her the Mayan method of Uterine Adjustment.  Joan also apprenticed with Maurieke Sheyelle, MD, who was educated in Surinam, Denmark, England and the U.S. and who was her initial influence in recognizing the healing power of food and diet. Joan’s teachers include her clients, apprentices, and those who have been guides and teachers for her Wilderness Fasting Vision Quests over the years.

Here’s info on the “accreditation” organization. It seems that it’s purpose is to accredit IBEM only and that all of its members are IBEM grads who set up “lodges” where they practice: https://tmwsfn.com/about.html

Quote
The Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations accredits the Institute of BioEnergetic Medicine (ibemcollege.org) as an offical seminary of the Society and recognizes the degree, BD (BioEnergetic Doctor), as a religious degree based on Native American spiritual teachings and traditional Native American medicine. The term "bioenergetic" as a spiritual concept is expressed in the Ojibwe words as "kina-gebizhi gomih" and is to always be interpreted literally which in essence means that that all of the universe is connected at the most basic level of matter, and which is beautifully expressed in scripture by the Apostle paul, "In Him we live, move, and have our being." "The Great Spirit is the binding force of the universe, calling and maintainig all things, including ourselves, into existence." (Lone Wolf Dances on Thunder) Thus the Great Spirit is Life and Energy, and the Universal Intelligence behind all that exists. The Ojibwe term "Kitchi-Manitou" can be translated as the Great Spirit, but also as the Great Mystery.
Based upon the Kituwa Society and Cherokee First Nation cultures, the Medicine Wheel Society of First Nations is an  independent, esoteric, spiritual organization of ordained, ceremonial First Nation Church ministers who engage in natural healing methods of emotional, mental, physical and spiritual problems in accordance with historic spiritual, traditions, and teachings of Native Americans.

THE MEDICINE WHEEL SOCIETY OF FIRST NATIONS DOES NOT CLAIM TO BE AN AMERICAN INDIAN BAND, TRIBE, OR NATION. IT IS COMPOSED OF ORDAINED CEREMONIAL MINISTERS WHO DO BELIEVE IN AMERICAN INDIAN SPIRITUAL TEACHINGS AND HEALING PRACTICES, ACCEPT THE FUNDAMENTAL SPIRITUAL PRINCIPLES OF FIRST NATION CHURCH AND SACRED WAY FIRST NATIONS ASSEMBLIES, AND HAVE A HEALING MINISTRY. BECAUSE TRADITIONAL AMERICAN INDIAN HEALING INVOLVES NATURAL HEALING MODALITIES, SUCH AS HERBS, NUTRITION, SOUND AND LIGHT, OFTEN CALLED EARTH MEDICINE, AND OTHERS, THE MEDICINE WHEEL SOCIETY OF FIRST NATIONS ENDORSES THE STUDY OF WESTERN AND EASTERN SCIENCE SUBJECTS AS THEY APPLY TO THOSE NATURAL MODALITIES, SUCH AS ANATOMY, CHEMISTRY, PHYSIOLOGY, PATHOPHYSIOLOGY, AND SO ON. MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY DO NOT CLAIM TO BE MEDICAL PHYSICIANS, NOR TO PRACTICE AS SUCH , AND RECOGNIZE THE VALUE OF SUCH WHEN NEEDED BY THEIR PATIENT/CLIENTS. THE USE OF THE TITLE "DOCTOR" IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MEANING OF TEACHER, AND THE TITLE "MEDICINE" IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TRADITIONAL AMERICAN INDIAN MEANING OF THE TERM, AND DOES NOT MEAN "DRUGS OR SURGERY." MEMBERSHIP IN THE MEDICINE WHEEL SOCIETY OF FIRST NATIONS IS OPEN TO ALL RACES, GENDERS,  AND PEOPLES, WITHOUT ANY FORM OF DISCRIMINATION, IN ACCORDANCE WITH  FIRST NATION PRINCIPLES.

Please note that ordained ministers, priests, Chaplains and clergy are permitted under the law to offer counseling, teaching, and non-invasive natural healing procedures including nutrition, herbal medicines, and other natural substances, lifestyle counseling, patient education, including the laying of hands, various spiritual and healing rituals, and non-invasive natural healthcare modalities related to their spiritual beliefs and teachings. For example certain minsters of the Church of Scientology use in their ministery a machine called the "E Meter."

The validity of ministers engaged in healing has been upheld all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States. Ministers and priests are protected by the First Amendment to the federal Constittution which states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press, or the right of the people peacceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
