"Essentially, this is what happens any time one people assert they know what is good for another," said Kevin Gover, director of the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian Institution. "It is tragic and inevitable."

--- End quote ---

I could not continue reading beyond this passage. Stating that abuse was inevitable during a moment of initial truth-telling is about the most anti-helpful thing you could do. I guess he thinks his Manifest Destiny beliefs trump human rights. Abuse is not inevitable.

I know different people with this trauma to handle and my heart goes out. I am so angry that this happened. I salute all survivors and families and wish you continuing strength.

Barnaby_McEwan:
"manifest destiny"?

Do you have any idea who Kevin Gover is? Try using a search engine.

earthw7:
she does not have a clue that he is native

Prairie Fairy:
This is true. I have no clue. But thanks to you, now I have two.
Your help is much appreciated.
Sorry for being stupid.

Barnaby_McEwan:
I'm sorry if I was harsh. I'm not native either: when I first started posting on NDN lists and forums I'm sure I annoyed the hell out of people (and maybe still do), but I benefitted from their politeness and patience. I could try harder to learn from the example of others.
