He has been active with AISES for decades and is now serving on the Council of Elders; receiving the 1994 Outstanding Student Award https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED409127.pdf. He claims to be a member of White Earth in Minnesota. He married a Dine/Navajo woman in the 90s at some point.

At 18, he was a deputy sheriff in Houston, TX. And then Austin, TX. He later did a stint as an EMT in Breckenridge, CO. Went to school in Duluty, MN and is now at UW Madison.

It's hard to find any other info, though.

I believe that Bret Benally Thompson is White Earth through his paternal grandmother, Leoba Rose (Blanchard) Thompson. Leoba was married to William S. Thompson. Bret’s father is William K. Thompson. I’m not sure if his paternal grandfather was Native American. Based on the Indian Roll, I think Bret’s father would have 1/4 blood quantum just from Leoba. That would make Bret 1/8 blood quantum. Bret would be eligible for enrollment because he was born prior to 1961; assuming his father was on the roll. https://whiteearth.com/divisions/enrollments/home

I’m not able to post supporting documentation right now but hopefully the information above helps.
