Ywahoo, her fake tribe, and this "dance" have no relation to any actual Cherokee tradition.

Some groups connected to OBOD are still using this pretendian, Cherohonkee Tai Chi mess. Apparently it's now in use at some of the anti-fracking camps in Britain :(

For those just getting here, if you are doing this "Dance of Life" it is not Native American. It was made up by a white man who has zero connection to Native culture. He's just a neopagan like the people promoting this in your country.

It really saddens me to see this at the anti-fracking camps, where they are also trying to hold sweats. I don't know who is leading them, but apparently it's become very common among that crowd. Looks like they care about their right, and the rights of other white people, to have clean water, air and nice landscapes, but they don't care if they harm NDNs to get it. Very disappointing.

People in the camps, if you read this, Thank you for working to protect the landbase, but please do so without contributing to cultural genocide and white supremacy. You have been fooled into doing bastardized Tai Chi and chanting nonsense. It's offensive. Please stop. It doesn't matter that you like how it makes you feel. Same thing with the pretendian sweats. Just stop it. Listen to your own ancestors. Revive the ways to honour the earth without harming Native American cultures, OK?

Eeek. I'd never seen this. Yes, it's a combination of some basic Tai Chi moves interspersed with bits of Modern Dance 101 (though with bad form and incorrect alignment). It's both sad and funny that people think this is Native. Obviously, the people who think this is Native have never met NDNs.

I admit I did not watch the entire video. It's rather tedious.

Video posted on Sunray cult's website: http://www.sunray.org/dotnetnuke/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

Which Thai Chi style should this be? It is not the Yang - style. It is not Qi Gong.
I think they invented this dance, looking for meditative motions and music, so other people come to remember a combining to old traditional way of life of old cultures. This should make it more credibly, genuine .... .
But - another point - does a mix in Thai Chi or Qi Gong exist in this way? I donĀ“t think so.

This is another video about this issue.

They should give them another name, it seemes like a free dance of movement, developed on their own, without traditional basics. This would be ok.

There are a few moves that look to me to be based on the short form of one of the Tai Chi styles taught in America. Maybe you didn't recognize them because their form is so bad :)

A lot of the people doing this are not saying publicly that they think it's Cherokee.  They do say publicly that it's a free dance. But in private they still claim it's NDN. Just like some of the ceremony-sellers put their services on a webpage, but then only say how much it costs if people contact them directly.

The guy in that video has even worse form than the women. Ick.

OMG. The level of BS and misinformation in this. Wow.

They're all still claiming it's Cherokee. They don't even know what the most basic terms mean.

On the surface some movements seems like Thai Chi, some like Gi Gong, some like Yoga ... and whatever more. The last video got some breathing technic aspects with phonetic sounds... . This is a oddities mess.
It would be interesting who had invented this dance? I found this homepage:

http://hermiades.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/how-to-do-the-cherokee-dance-of-life/

Quote:
"This pattern looks like Tai Chi or Chi Kung (Qi Gong).  It was taught to me by Karina McAbee, whose father was Cherokee and mother was Japanese Samurai.  It comes from the Eastern Tsalagi tradition before the Civil War and the Trail of Tears.  The Medicine Person who originally passed on the Dance of Life was weaving the martial art of his people into this Meditation.  Having done this Dance on a daily basis for over the past 20 years, I found it grounds me and balances me in my body.  It has a profound healing effect.  One psychic, who was watching me do the dance, told me that he could see the energy being moved through me as a conduit.  What he found amazing was that this is the only moving meditation which he had seen performed where the balancing was effective and in harmony with the Native tradition he practices.  He had never seen this done before, although he has been a Sun Dancer and Medicine Person for many years."

Traditional .... Cherokee, Japanese, .... ;D:'(?
